Tento balík obsahuje voliteľné komponenty systému GNU troff na formátovanie textu. Základný balík, groff-base, obsahuje tradičné nástroje ako nroff, tbl, eqn a pic. Tento balík obsahuje ďalšie zariadenia a ovládače výstupu do DVI, HTML (ak sú nainštalované odporúčané balíky gs, netpbm a psutils), na tlačiarne HP LaserJet a Canon CAPSL LBP-4 a LBP-8.
